Matches and fuel costs

A request stemming from the committee meeting 23/04/09.

Could everyone who car shares who has a lift please remember to contribute toward fuel costs if you can afford to.

Running a car isn't cheap, wear and tear, maintenance, fuel costs aren't cheap even for local matches and much higher for longer distance fixtures.

393 match games played this Winter season. Approximately 30 Away matches. Many miles are covered during a season.

03/12/09 A busy night for our club with 3 matches to play. Frank's Dudley league Div 1 team achieved 2 draws on boards 1 and 2 but lost match 2 of their debut season at Warley Quinborne. Our Div 3 team played host to the Warley Quinborne Div 3 team and they also narrowly beat Wolverhampton.

Gordon's WDCL B team played Rushall B in the 2nd home match of the evening. Max won by default, Dave Wightman notched up another win and remains undefeated. Gordon and Richard lost on 3 and 2. Paul Walters faced a tricky and complex endgame but played it well and built on a time advantage. A draw was declined by the Rushall player but soon after time pressure led to a mistake and so Paul gained the full point we needed to win the match. Well done team and thanks to Rushall for another great battle. Wolverhampton B 3 Rushall B 2. A nice victory following the previous emphatic loss to Rushall A.

30/11/09 BDCL A draw at S Birmingham. Well done all on this great result.

26/11/09 Wolverhampton beat Halesowen 3-1 in the first ever Wolverhampton, Dudley league Div 1 match.

23/11/09 Our WDCL B had a tough match against Rushall A and lost 4-1 Away. David Wightman scored the only win of the night and remains undefeated this season on 5/5. Dave is an early contender for AGM trophies but can any of our members catch up?

12/11/09 Two home matches: Well done to our WDCL B team for beating visitors Bushbury. Our Dudley Div 2 team faced an unbeaten Boldmere St Michael's. Our team wasn't up to usual strength due to players supplementing our WDCL B but some good battles. Board 1 was close and Paul was optimistic about his position but low on time and blacks bishop pair trained on the white king.

05/11/09 Well done to our WDCL B team for beating visitors Boldmere St Michael's. A very close match.

03/11/09 Our BDCL A team lose at Olton 4-2 but well done to David Daniels who won his club debut match on board 1. Gordon Sands and Phil Porter drew.

29/10/09 Cannock league team: Barry's team achieve their 3rd consecutive Cannock league draw this season. Very well done to Jared Gill for acheiving his first club win of the season and to Dave Wightman for making it 2 out 2 in his debut season for our club.

22/10/09 Well done to our Dudley Div 2 team and WDCL A. WDCL A beat Warley Quinborne Away and our Dudley team beat Kynoch but had a 1 point head start due to the Away team defaulting a board. David Whightman played his debut match for Wolverhampton and won on board 1! Well done David and welcome.

15/10/09 Well done to Peter Jones for scoring 4/4 in our club rapid tournament. Also well done to Gordon Sands for scoring 3/4. An enjoyable thanks to all participants and to Richard Dawson and Steve Wilson for organising. Special praise to New members who played well and notched up solid wins.

Mike Townsend also continued his WDCL A adjournment against David Anderton of Walsall Kipping. Mike won the Rook Pawn endgame and so our A team won the match. Well done Mike and to team.

14/10/09 WDCL B at Stourbridge. Stourbridge team very strong and our A team would have probably stuggled against such as a side considering the high grades. Stourbridge board 5 higher graded than our board 1! Anyway an enjoyable evening and lets hope we're all stronger from the experience. Paul did well to salvage a draw. Well done Stourbridge.

Also a hearty welcome back to Munroe Morrison.

24/09/09 Our WDCL A and Cannock league team play their first matches of the Winter season. Both our teams achieve great draws. The Cannock league match heralded 3 new Wolverhampton player's debuts. Amrik Gill, Jared Gill and Matthew Tudor. All played well, great debut performances by all. Well done all and to Amrik Gill for winning his debut match! Brewood, well done also for drawing the match.

Good luck to all and well done to Michael on his selection. This is exciting news and great that one of our longstanding Wolverhampton players is playing in such a high profile match.

10/09/09 The clubs Winter season begins with our BDCL A team trekking to Solihull to play a Division 2 match.Due to postcode uncertainty and no postcode in league book 3 of our players arrived at least 10 mins late and so had a time disadvantage. Paul Walters fought back and drew after being 2 pawns down in his BDCL A team debut. Frank Wood also drew. Board 1 and 5 have adjourned. Good to see Peter Thompson back. Not a bad performance considering 3 reserves had to be called upon and against a team who played in Division 1 last season!

23/04/09 Pittaway Cup the Final! Halesowen had a 2.25 point headstart due to being in a lower division. Their team were strong though and have recently gained promotion to WDCL Div 1. Our team were 5 regular players short so we knew we'd have a battle on our hands. Despite being outgraded Wolverhampton achieved an amazing and historic victory playing Halesowen at Stourbridge.22/04/09 Very well done to our team and acting captain for the night Martin May and also to Captain Mike Townsend for steering Wolverhampton to victory! Club competitions and AGM trophy standings

22 May 2009

Millennium Cup: Richard Dawson 62.963%. Richard and Mike Townsend have had best percentages all season and the lead has swung to and fro. Richard’s 16 wins , 2 draws, 9 losses is enough to come top this year. Steve Wilson 62.5% 2nd, Mike Townsend 60.714%. Max Wooton also has a good percentage and has performed well.

W N Boydon : 12 WDCL Points including 2 Pittaway Cup wins. Max Wooton gained an early WDCL points lead and consolidated with consistency. Well done Max! Steve Wilson’s 10.5 WDCL points is tremendous and would probably be enough to clinch the trophy in a normal year. So well done to Steve too. Such high scores have eclipsed last years’ 7.5 point W N Boydon trophy joint winners.

Merit Cup: Gordon Sands & Peter Hubbard 31 matches. Gordon, most draws with 18!

Richard Dawson most points 17 from 27 matches and has a 2.5 point lead over Paul Walters who has 15 points.. .
