Matches and fuel costs

A request stemming from the committee meeting 23/04/09.

Could everyone who car shares who has a lift please remember to contribute toward fuel costs if you can afford to.

Running a car isn't cheap, wear and tear, maintenance, fuel costs aren't cheap even for local matches and much higher for longer distance fixtures.

393 match games played this Winter season. Approximately 30 Away matches. Many miles are covered during a season.

11/06/09 Well done to our Summer league B team for beating Rushall 3-2.

08/05/09 Walrus event at Walsall Kipping: Well done to Rushall for winning the Walrus trophy for 2009. Wolverhampton were runners up just half a point ahead of Walsall Kipping. Well done to all who took part and thank you to Walsall Kipping for hosting this years event.

23/04/09 Pittaway Cup the Final! Halesowen had a 2.25 point headstart due to being in a lower division. Their team were strong though and have recently gained promotion to WDCL Div 1. Our team were 5 regular players short so we knew we'd have a battle on our hands. Despite being outgraded Wolverhampton achieved an amazing and historic victory playing Halesowen at Stourbridge.22/04/09 Very well done to our team and acting captain for the night Martin May and also to Captain Mike Townsend for steering Wolverhampton to victory! Also well done to Halesowen for doing so well and reaching the Pittaway Cup Final.

16/04/09 WDCL C team gain 2nd place promotion spot in WDCL Div 3! The final match of the season bought St George's to us. The visitors shared joint 3rd place with us and a match win for either team would earn promotion. Our board 2 had a bad game and lost. Our boards 4 and 5 won and our captain on board 1 drew after the demise of an apparently superior position. Richard Dawson on Board 3 declined an early draw and with the score at 2.5-2.5 with the game looking drawn our player offered the draw again. This longest game of the match was drawn after an epic tense battle. With a 3-2 Score Wolverhampton won the match and have gained 2nd place promotion from Division 3! So, with our WDCL B being relegated and our WDCL C team being promoted at least our club still have teams in Divisions 1 and 2. Well done everyone! Particularly Richard, Dawson, Peter Hubbard and Steve Wilson for achieving so many wins. Our boards 1 and 2 Gordon Sands, Paul Walters, Colin Haughton and Brian Walker have also scored valuable points to secure match draws and wins. Special praise to our captain Gordon Sands too for leading the team to promotion success in an ever stronger Division 3.

12/04/09 WDCL B team relegated from Division 2. WDCL C are joint 3rd in Division 3 with just 1 match to play on 16/04/09.

09/04/09 BDCL B win their final match of the season 4.5-1.5 playing Warley Quinborne.

06/04/09 WDCL C in action at Rushall. Our team beat Rushall 1-4. This great result propels us to 11 points around joint 3rd. The pressure was on and a loss at Rushall would have placed us into the relegation zone. Well done all!

02/04/09 A busy night due to 3 home matches. Alas few wins for our teams. Steve Wilson and Paul Walters beat higher grades on the night for the C team but Lichfield won the match.BDCL B also lost to Walsall Kipping. BDCL A team will be decided by adjournments.

18/03/09 WDCL A beat Boldmere St Michael's in their final match of the Winter season. Well done to all.

23/04/09 Pittaway Cup Success! The Final!

This great result propels us to 11 points around joint 3rd toward the top end of the table.

05/03/09 WDCL C team draw at Walsall Kipping

04/03/09 Pittaway Cup Semi final triumph. Well done to Mike Townsend and his team for beating Shifnal & Telford 5.5-2.5 and not losing on a single board! full score to appear on this website soon

26/02/09 Tonight our BDCL A team faced one of the strongest teams in the Birmingham league. Despite being outgraded our bottom 3 boards achieved draws and Mike Townsend really excelled by beating a much higher grade than himself on the top board. Well done all!

23/02/09 Despite our WDCL B team being outgraded our team against Rushall B at their home venue. Well done all.

11/02/09 WDCL A team draw at Stafford. Max Wooton wins another and increases his WDCL points tally. A strong contender for the W N Boydon trophy but a couple of other members have scored well too.

21/01/09 A bad week last week for our teams but the WDCL C team beat Halesowen 2-3 as our team drew boards 2 to 5 and won on board 1. Well done to all,

Club competitions and AGM trophy standings

22 May 2009

Millennium Cup: Richard Dawson 62.963%. Richard and Mike Townsend have had best percentages all season and the lead has swung to and fro. Richard’s 16 wins , 2 draws, 9 losses is enough to come top this year. Steve Wilson 62.5% 2nd, Mike Townsend 60.714%. Max Wooton also has a good percentage and has performed well.

W N Boydon : 12 WDCL Points including 2 Pittaway Cup wins. Max Wooton gained an early WDCL points lead and consolidated with consistency. Well done Max! Steve Wilson’s 10.5 WDCL points is tremendous and would probably be enough to clinch the trophy in a normal year. So well done to Steve too. Such high scores have eclipsed last years’ 7.5 point W N Boydon trophy joint winners.

Merit Cup: Gordon Sands & Peter Hubbard 31 matches. Gordon, most draws with 18!

Richard Dawson most points 17 from 27 matches and has a 2.5 point lead over Paul Walters who has 15 points.. .
