31/03/11 Match Report:
What a night last night was! Paul Walters opened well and mustred up a super powerful attack on f2 using N+Q. Qxf2+ forced white King to h1. Another in between N check allowed black to
Knight fork white's Q R B after winning f2 pawn. Hence, a pawn and exchange up after NxR. Superior position for black and white's dark squared hemmed in. However, white fought diligently and sought to complicate the position with pressure from their good bishop.
White skewered black Q and B and thus won a whole bishop. Hence equalised material. Barry Lewis had a winning attack with 2 rooks on the 7th and dark squared bishop pinning black King. Black had pressure too and repetition of moves resulted in black declaring a draw. So i drew against 120. Bob had lost, so Gordon had to win to draw the match. Considering the great season Gordon's had I expected him to do well on board 1 and he didn't dissapoint. hmmm boards 3 and 4 didn't capitalise on winning opportunities but Lichfield players did well to doggedly defend and draw. Wolverhampton Win on board count and so are through to the Humphrey's Cup (U130) Final!!! Well done all, and thank you to Lichfield for a close and rivetting semi final.
16/03/11 WDCL Div 1 Mike Townsend v Lee Grinsell is a draw. Hence, Bushbury win 3.5-2.5. Well done to our team and to Bushbury.
13/03/11 News of Mike Townsend's adjourned game result against T Botherton being agreed as a draw means that we win the Shifnal & Telford match 3.5-2.5 and have 9 WDCL points. Well done all!
13/01/11 Well last the WDCL B team triumphed against Kidderminster B and started the 2011 in style, A week later the WDCL A and C didn't emulate the success of the previous week. Walsall Kipping bought a strong team and achieved an emphatic 2-4 win on the night. We did achieve 4 excellent draws on the night and Max Wooton continued his form by rising to the challenge of a higher board 3. Check scores link for more details and full writeup by Dave Wightman.
WDCL C Jin drew on board 1 and Nigel Collings gained the only full point of the night! P Hubbard battled against Simon Jones for a long time but eventually lost to a slightly higher graded Simon Jones. Well done Bushbury C.
06/01/11 WDCL B Kidderminster B: Well, I'm sure we wanted to try to put our previous Home match very narrow defeat from 04/11/10 behind us and to start the New Year afresh. We'd be up against a side who sit 2nd in WDCL Div 2.
Wolverhampton would face an unbeaten team at least for Away matches. Kidderminster outgraded us on 5 of the 6 boards and so a tough match was anticipated especially with Max Wooton tied to WDCL A. Gordon and Ola were one of the first to finish, Ola won and our captain lost but will add losses for Gordon Sands so far this season have been few and far between. Richard Dawson won to make the scoreline 2-1. Paul Walters had dwindling minutes to make time control and speeded up to narrow an 18 minute deficit. Move 34 an unanticipated check was delivered by Paul's opponent but the only viable defensive move to save, counter and maintain the 1 pawn lead was found. By move 36 Paul's next move would be decisive but 60 mins were still added to clock prior to the final move. Hence, all square on 3-3. Shortly after this Steve Wilson's draw offer was accepted. Bob Khoshnevis's game has been adjourned. A tense, great battle that could have gone either way. Thank you Kidderminster for an enjoyable and exciting match

24/12/10 WDCL B: News of Bob Khoshnevis adjournment from 04/11/10. The match was all square on 2.5-2.5 but Halesowen's J Llewellyn won the adjourned game and so Halesowen win 2.5-3.5.
15/12/10 Warley Quinborne A adhoourned game results have been added and the final score is a 1 - 5 loss to Wolverhampton. Well done Warley Quinborne.

25/11/10 An understrength WDCL A, total outgraded by over 200 points face Warley Quinborne. Max Wooton Peter Pearson Jones achieve excellent draws and the match hinges on adjournments.

07/10/10 Busy club night with 2 home matches. Frank Wood's team played host to newly promoted Stourbridge A and as webmaster and player who played against Stourbridge A last year in Div 2 and losing 4.5-0.5 it's good to see such a team in Div 1. 27/09/10 The start of an exciting week! WDCL C team play their 2nd match of the season away v St George's B.
21/09/10 One day later, another Away match: WDCL B took a slightly weaker team than usual to Mercia and lost by the narrowest of margins. Actually the same scoreline from the previous night was repeated by our B team. Well done team and especially to Ola who beat a higher grade on board 1 and to Brian Walker who drew with an opponent despite being out graded by 30+ points. 20/09/10 WDCL A get off to a faltering start at West Bromwich but some sterling solid performances from Mike Townsend, Rob Marshall and reserve Gordon Sands who gets man of the match acclaim! 16/09/10 The Winter Season begins: Busy night as the Winter league begins with our WDCL B and C teams in action at home playing Brewood and Walsall Kipping respectively.
Our B team were outgraded on the top 4 boards but we won 4.5-1.5. New member
