Successes

Summer league 2007/8: B team : 10 points from 3 wins, 1 draw, gains us Division 3 South Championship status! Wins 1-4 at Halesowen, 5-0 at home against Warley Quinborne, 3.5-1.5 home against Rushall and a 2.5-2.5 draw at Walsall Kipping..Well done team; Richard Dawson, Bob Khoshnevis, Peter Hubbard, Barry Lewis, Rob Parker, Gordon Sands, Paul Walters.

Team also achieve 75% average performance. 20 match games, 13 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses.

BDCL A team: Win their first match of the season away play Warley Quinborne. Also beat Kynoch A in a home match 30/10/07 3.5-2.5 where our team initially drew with 2 results pending.20/13/08 An under strength team side played Halesowen at home our A team beat a strong Halesowen team 4-1 with 1 adjournment. 01/04/08 Mike Townsend's adjourned game game against M Staples of Lichfie ldAresult is a draw. So, our BDCL Div 1 A team beat Lichfield A 3.5-2.5. Boards 1 to 5 draw, and Bob Khoshnevis board 6's triumph helps secure the win. Team now have 8 league points from 4 wins. 08/04/08 Shirley & Lucas at home, we are 3-1 up with board 1 and 2 adjourned. So we shall at least draw the match and be elevated to at least 9 points in Div 1, 10 if we have achieve a draw on the top boards. Unfortunately boards 1 and 2 were conceded to Shirley & Lucas but we still draw the match.

BDCL B team: Won their first match of the season with an initial score of 4.5-0.5 pending a board 1 adjudication. Opposition's board 1 resigned so our final match score 5.5-0.5 at home playing Halesowen. Also win their 2nd match 2-4 playing Mutual Circle Away. Draw at home 3-3 playing Mercia 01/11/07. 02/01/08 at Bushbury we gained a 3-2 lead with 1 adjournment. Hence, our B team have at least drew the match. Result pended adjournment.We conceded the point to the home team and thus drew the match. B team won at Walsall, our team managed a 0-5-5.5 victory 10/01/08.17/01/08 At Lichfield match draw 3-3.P Broomhall and B Lewis win, K Bate, P Hubbard achieve draws. 24/01/08 Undefeated on all boards playing at Home against Birmingham, score 4.5-1.5. 25/02/08 S Birmingham are beaten by our team at home. Important fixture as visitors joint top of league. Score 3.5-1.5 with 1 adjournment.03/04/08 Northfield Checkmates are beaten 4-2. Hence escalating us to joint top position in BDCL Div 4..

WDCL A team: Beat West Bromwich 4-2 11/10/07.Draw 3-3 against Bushbury A in a match that was commenced 04/10/07 and result pended on 3 adjournments. 06/11/07 Halesowen A also beaten 1.5-3.5 with 1 adjournment pending. Martin May drew the adjourned game boosting our score to 4 points to Halesowen's 2 points.29/11/07 St George's A beaten with score 4.5-1.5. 03/01/08: A team WDCL Div 1 beat Warley Quinborne A playing Away with 2.5-3.5 score. Stafford played us at home 14/02/08 and we drew on boards 3 and 4, won on board 6. 2 adjournments. Mike Townsend and Frank Wood won their adjourned games on boards 2 and 5 respectively thus winning the match 4-2. Walsall Kipping Away match that began 06/03/08 yielded a 2-2 score. Ali Samanci's and Martin May's games on board 6 and 4 respectively were adjourned. Confirmation of draws for these 2 games as of 26/03/07 means the match is drawn at 3-3.14 points

WDCL B team: Draw their first match of the season away playing Brewood with a 3 - 3 score. 2 draws 2 wins each. 26/11/07 B team draw playing away at Rushall. Draw our Stourbridge B Away match 3-3, 13/02/08.Mercia A match began 27/03/08. Score 2-3 on the night and match depended on Ben Marlow's adjourned game that seemed drawish. Ben won though and so we drew the match.

WDCL C team: 11/10/07 C team draw their 2nd match of the season at home playing Rushall. 2.5 - 2.5 score from a draw on board 3 and wins for us on boards 4 and 5.Draw 2.5-2.5 against Lichfield 01/11/07 at home. Third draw of the season playing Halesowen at Home 29/11//07. Win match 7 against Brewood at home 03/01/08 with 3-2 score. 07/02/08 A Home draw against Mercia B.21/02/08 WDCL Div 3 C team beat Lichfield Away 4.5-0.5 and gain 2 valuable league points. Stafford visit with very strong team 06/03/08 match drawn 2.5-2.5..

Cannock league: Draw against Rugeley 18/10/07. Lichfield beaten in an Away match 14/02/08. 09/04/08. Dra against St Mary's Away.

Dudley League: Win first match of the season 3 -1 at home playing Stourbridge. Also win 2nd match 0-4 playing Kynoch Away. Match 3 another 1 - 3 win playing Hagley Away. Another 4-0 defeating Warley Quinborne 20/12/07. Just in time for Christmas. 15/01/08 4-0 win at Mercia.24/01/08 bring Boldmere St Michael's and we win 4-0 with the visitors defaulting board 4.01/04/08 Dudley league team gain their 7th consecutive match win of the season and their 5th 4-0 score Away at Halesowen.

Wolverhampton Summer League Awards and Quickplay 07/08/08:

Congratulations to Paul Walters of Wolverhampton for winning the U110 section with 4.5 points out 5. Conceding just 0.5 points in round 5 to A Hussain (Warley Quinborne)who shared =2nd place with Bob Brodie(Bushbury).

Also congratulations to Wolverhampton's Frank Wood for winning the Major (110+) and to Alf Schroeder (Bushbury) 2nd place runner up.

Well done all and thanks to all those who attended and participated in the Quickplay tournament. Much gratitude to Peter Broomhall and John Wakelam for pairings and to Barry Lewis and Derek Laight for organising.

Our Summer league B team become Wolverhampton Summer League Champions of Division 3 South as of 10 July 2008. Our B team secured a draw at Walsall Kipping and 10 points from 3 match wins and 1 draw. Well Done everyone and particularly to captain Gordon Sands!

09/08/08 Most of our Summer League B championship winning team met at our club to be photographed by the Express & Star for a feature. The feature and photograph appeared in the Express & Star 11/08/08 on page 15 and Wolverhampton Chronicle Thurs 14/08/08 on page 3.

19/06/08 Wolverhampton B beat Rushall C 19/06/08. 05/06/08 Wolverhampton B beat Warley Quinborne 5-0 at home. 20/05/08 Wolverhampton B beat Halesowen Away, and win match 1, 1-4.

Wolverhampton Summer A team: Win their final match of the season by beating Rugeley 4-1. Hence, A team finish season on 10 points. 07/07/08 Summer league A team lose at Rushall 4.5-0.5, 03/07/08 A team draw at Stafford, 26/06/08 A Team beat Northfield Checkmates 3-2. 04/06/08 Wolverhampton A beat Bushbury B Away 1.5-3.5.

22/05/08 Wolverhampton retain the Walrus Trophy by just 0.5 points. Well done to all participants and players for making it a very enjoyable event on our chess calendar. Full board scores tobe published soon. Walrus Full Scores

08/05/08 Club AGM took place and lasted a bit longer than usual as a lot was discussed. Many new captaincies and changes of post. Normal club chess nights resume next week.

WDCL Lightning Chess event held at our club 24/04/08

None of our 4 teams won but Paul Walters achieved joint 1st place in the Minor section by scoring 5 out of 6, 4 wins 2 draws.

08/10/08 Dual success for our WDCL A and C teams both playing away matches:

WDCL C team win match 2 against Stafford Away. Also a very decisive 0.5-4.5 from drawing on board 1 and winning all other boards.

WDCL A win at Shifnal & Telford 2.5-3.5. Very Well done to both our teams.

18/09/08 WDCL B and C teams play their first matches of the season. C team win match 1 against Halesowen B with a 3-2 score. We drew on the white boards 2 and 4, won on all lower black boards.

B team narrowly lose against Rugeley but were not helped by a Home default that gave Rugeley 1 point headstart from the outset! Mike Griffiths did exceptionally well to beat a player more than 40 points higher than himself.

15/09/08 CDCL Div 3 match Claudio's team beaten at Rushall 1-3. Peter Broomhall wins on board 1.

10/09/08 BDCL Div 1 team lose match 1 playing Halesowen A at Stourbridge..

09/09/08 first club match of the Winter season. Wolverhamption beat Mercia A in the Dudley league Division 2. Well done team.

18/12/08 Thanks to Keith Bate for organising a Christmas Blitz 10 tournament. The event was well attended and enjoyed by all. Well done all and particularly Martin May for acheiving 1st place, Frank Wood runner up and Keith Bate 3rd.

11/12/08 WDCL A team beat Stourbridge 4-2 at our home venue. Our team back to full strength.

26/11/08 against Bushbury we were winning 0.5-1.5 as Max Wooton won on board 2 and Steve Wilson drew on 6. The match depending on 4 adjournments on boards 1, 3, 4,5. Jeff Fox drew board 1. Our board 5 Paul Walters won and draws were agreed by Bob Khoshnevis and Keith Bate that secured the 2-4 away match win.

20/11/08 WDCL C team draw against 3rd division leaders Walsall Kipping B. BDCL B finish night 2.5-2.5 with 1 adjourment to play.

11/11/08 Well done to our Cannock league team for winning their Rugeley away match despite being outgraded on the upper 3 boards.

06/11/08 Dudley League team draw playing Halesowen at home.

03/11/08 WDCL C team draw at St George's

23/10/08 Wolverhampton beat Stourbridge in first round of the WDCL Pittaway Cup. R J Marshall and Max Wooton won their games and all other boards drew. full result here 5 - 3 Our Cannock league team scored just half a point against Brewood from Paul Walters' board 1 draw.
